The Zoological Society of Southern Africa ( ZSSA for short , German  Zoological Society of Southern Africa ) is the society for the promotion of zoology in southern Africa south of the Kunene and Zambezi . It was founded on March 11, 1959 and is based in South Africa .

The society currently (as of 2009) has around 400 members, which corresponds to a decrease of almost 50 percent since 1991. She publishes the journal African Zoology and the newsletters Aardvark .

The ZSSA is to host the International Congress of Zoology for the first time in 2020 .
