The Dolmen Le Pavé de Saint Lazare (also called La Pierre de Saint Lazare or Dolmen of Crouzilles) is located near the D760 road and the junction of the “Le Dolmen” road, north of the Vienne River , 1.5 km west of Crouzilles , east of L'Île-Bouchard , near Tours in the Touraine in the Indre-et-Loire department in France . In France, dolmen is the generic term for megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).

The large rectangular bar made of sandstone is about 9.0 m long and 4.5 m wide. It consists of six elements in two groups:

  • Group 1 consists of two supporting stones in situ, 2.8 m long and 1.8 m high, on which a capstone of 5.3 × 3.5 m lies.
  • Group 2 consists of a 6.2 × 4.5 m capstone, broken into five parts, which lies diagonally on the collapsed 4.5 or 5.8 m long bearing stones.

The red color of the stone comes from ferrous salt. Legend has it that on rainy days , the blood of the Druids' sacrifices flows from the table into the small cavity in the stone.

In 1865, Bourassé reported that he had received permission for an excavation. His excavation report was not published. If Louis Dubreuil-Chambardel is to be believed, human bones have been found.
