Sugar factory in 1984

The Zuckerfabrik Güstrow AG (from 1960: VEB Zuckerfabrik Güstrow, from 1965 VEB Zuckerfabrik Nordkristall Güstrow) was a sugar factory in the east of Güstrow . It existed from 1883/1884 to January 31, 2008. The factory in Speicherstrasse in the north-west of the city was opened, but the factory burned down in 1929. It was not until 1957 that the construction of a new factory began in Primerburg in the east of the city, which went into operation in 1960. In 1991 the factory was taken over by Zucker-Aktiengesellschaft Uelzen-Braunschweig and modernized by 1994.

Due to the EU sugar market reform , the plant operated by Nordzucker AG was closed, dismantled and then demolished in 2008. In the last sugar campaign in 2007, 1.092 million tons of sugar beets were processed into 750,000 tons of sugar .

Since the demolition there has been a green space on the former factory site.
