The former restaurant " Zum Baren " in Oberursel (Taunus) was built in 1813 and stood until 1986 under monument protection . The name "Bärenkreuzung" is still used today for the adjacent intersection and the bear fountain is reminiscent of the house.

In 1813 the innkeeper Georg Pfaff erected the building at the beginning of today's main shopping street in Oberursel, the suburb , which is designed as a pedestrian zone . The house was then on the outskirts of the city. Today the location is at a central intersection of the city: the suburb leads from here as Adenauerallee and later as Frankfurter Landstrasse to Frankfurt am Main . She cruises at the level of the former restaurant to bear with that of Oberhöchstadt forth coming top Höchstädter road that takes at the intersection name Liebfrauenstraße and continue towards Bad Homburg leads. Liebfrauenstrasse and Adenauerallee / Frankfurter Landstrasse form today's state road 3004.

This intersection, the Bear Crossing, was shaped by the three-story inn, which clearly towered over the neighboring buildings. It became a popular destination.

In 1901 Karl Röder acquired the house and in 1904 had a large ballroom added. This was also used as a gymnasium by the Gymnastics and Sports Society from 1861. In 1913, the Bären-Lichtspiele, the first cinema in Taunusstadt, opened in the Bären .

In 1964 the cinema was closed when the cinema was dying. On July 2, 1964, the last film was shown with the western They rode into the night .

In 1985, a group of investors bought the run-down house with the aim of tearing it down and replacing it with a modern residential and commercial building. This initially failed because the house was listed as a cultural monument in the monument catalog of the State of Hesse. In 1986, however, the monument authority announced that the house had been removed from the preservation order. In 1988 it was sold to Jupiter AG, the operator of the Louisen-Arkaden in Bad Homburg, and demolished in February 1991.

June 1992, the successor house, the Bären-Arkaden, was opened.
