Twelve Stone Ring

The Moelv Twelve Stone Ring ( Tolvsteinsringen ) is located in the municipality of Ringsaker , Innlandet Province in Norway . It is probably 2000 to 2500 years old.

The stone circle is located two kilometers north of the town of Moelv , immediately north of a petrol station there on the main road called Storgata . The Domarring ( German  "Richterring" ) on Lake Mjøsa has a diameter of about 25.0 m. The circle is made up of twelve megaliths carefully selected and roughly the same shape and size. Most of the other judges' rings have odd stone numbers. Its height in Moelv is between 1.2 and 1.5 m. Ten of the stones, which weigh about seven tons, were overturned and were put back up during the restoration. There is archaeological evidence that the stone circle was built as a grave enclosure. However, there is much to suggest that the circle had several functions on the Smedstad plain. More than 50 such stone circles have been preserved in Norway. The Twelve Stone Ring is the northernmost and only one in the area around Mjøsa. The facility is protected as a ground monument, fenced and provided with an explanatory board.

Nearby are the rock carvings of stone .
