from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Zweifallshammer is a former iron and steel works in the municipality of Hürtgenwald near Simonskall . The small ironworks was on the Kall .

A settlement has already been proven by Roman finds around 200 AD. Since the middle of the 17th century, the Hoesch family operated several smaller ironworks in this area. Eberhard Hoesch (1756–1811) built a small factory with a blast furnace and a hammer on the Kall around 1805 and named it Zweifallshammer .

After Eberhard's death in 1811, his two sons Wilhelm (1791–1831) and Eberhard (1790–1852) took over the plant and founded the company Gebrüder Eberhard and Wilhelm Hoesch in 1819 . When a smelting works in Lendersdorf was also bought in 1819 , the focus increasingly shifted there. The Zweifallshammer blast furnace was in operation until 1866. In 1871 the final installation took place after Dortmund by Leopold Hoesch .

Zweifallshammer and the surrounding area are still owned by the Hoesch family.

From Zweifallshammer part of the water ditch of the lead works Klingelpütz, three tunnels on the slope behind the current residential complex, the hut pond and the water ditch system, remains of the foundation and individual buildings remain.

The blast furnace has been restored. The former furnace grinding shop, which previously housed the fresh fire and the Reckhammer, was also restored . An overturned waterwheel turns on its front wall .
