Depression of the diaphragm

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As phrenoptosis refers to an abnormal position of the diaphragm contour in the chest radiograph . The diaphragmatic domes are flat and the angle between the diaphragm and the ribs is almost 90 °. In the lateral view, the diaphragm can even bulge downwards. The degree of movement of the diaphragm is reduced, a teardrop heart may appear.

A low diaphragm can result from obstructive pulmonary disease , emphysema, or pleural effusion . With these changes in position of the diaphragm, external breathing is restricted.
