The dwarf duck is one of the Mallard derived (Anas platyrhynchos) duck race , the "gnome way puppigen" with its shape the Kindchenschema corresponds strikes and also by their pert and naughty beings.

origin

The beginnings of this breed are unknown, but they were " thoroughbred " in England . Your English name "Call Duck" is derived from the Dutch word "kooi" for trap. Pygmy ducks have a powerful voice and a high, far-reaching and enduring reputation. They were initially used by Dutch hunters as bait ducks . These tied the tame ducks at the entrance of the trap and the more the little ducks called, the more wild ducks they lured into a trap or in front of the shotgun and thus ensured the success of their keeper.

description

The very lively ducks of this breed leave a very dwarf-like impression with their rounded rump and large, round head. The cute impression is reinforced by the spherical hamster cheeks, the short, broad beak and the dark, round eyes that are almost in the middle of the head. Ducks weigh only 800 grams, drakes around 900 grams.

Little ducks lay around 40 eggs a year. The eggshell color is white to greenish.
