Zwinglikirche Schaffhausen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Zwinglikirche Schaffhausen is an Evangelical - Reformed Church in the town of Schaffhausen . It offers space for up to 300 people.

history

The church building, newly built in 1959 by the then young architect Dieter Feth , was controversial because of its simplicity and clear design. It was inaugurated in the same year. Its simple form elements (also with the free-standing bell tower) and the light-flooded church interior are striking.

Redevelopment

Due to the age-related wear and tear, structural renovation was inevitable in 2003. However, it required responsible handling of the existing substance. In autumn 2003 the Zwingli building commission announced a competition to plan the renovation. A total of around 100 projects were submitted. The proposed solution by the Schaffhausen architect Roland Busenhart and the St. Gallen lighting designer Adrian Hostettler found broad support in autumn 2006 from both the parish and the parish association. The actual renovation took place in 2007 and was reopened in March 2008.

The light wall inside and the new, expressive wall element, which connects with the existing walls and at the same time delimits the secretariat area and the church, won the Prix Lumière in 2009 .
