Zwirbler

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Zwirbler is the world's first Facebook novel . Since July 1, 2010, the real-time novel with the main actor of the same name has been written on and for the social media platform: in German, in the form of short status reports and with an uncertain outcome. This connects the two trends in the network of published novels and letter novels in book form (cf. Johann Wolfgang Goethe's The Sorrows of Young Werther from 1774 and Choderlos de Laclos' Dangerous Liaisons from 1782).

Author Gergely Teglasy defines the character of this interactive Web 2.0 reading and lets the users determine the action. Due to the unpredictable content, readers must be at least 17 years old. Lots of little Facebook messages make up a story. There are no limits to the creativity of the readership. Regardless of whether it is exciting, profound, absurd, dirty or bizarre: Every status message begins with Zwirbler, consists of a maximum of 420 characters and gives the reader's opinion, idea or comment.

Zwirbler is also available as a podcast . Every 2nd Thursday this bundles the status reports of the last two weeks and is told by the Viennese audio book and news anchor Axel Grunt.

Entry is possible at any time, registration and "Like" on Facebook are sufficient. In July 2010 there were 2,000 followers, in February 2011 there were 3,000 and in March 2012 there were more than 8,000 followers. In September 2014, more than 16,000 users followed the novel.

After a successful crowdfunding campaign, which was accompanied by several blogs and media, the novel will appear as a book, e-book and also as a special edition on toilet paper on December 15, 2014 by kladdebuchverlag , which specializes in crowd publishing .

The Zwirbler was nominated for the Virus Thrower Award in 2014
