Cypriot library

The Cypriot Library ( Greek Κυπριακή Βιβλιοθήκη ) in Nicosia is the national library of the Republic of Cyprus .

The library was built in 1927 as a city library by decree of the British colonial governor Ronald Storrs . In 1968 its holdings were merged with the library of the Ministry of Education and Culture and management was transferred to the Ministry. In 1974 it moved to its original location in the fortress D'Avilla on the Venetian fortress wall. The institution received its legal status as a national library in 1987.
