Matthias Mück (* 1967 in Mainz ) is a German organist , cantor and church musician .

biography

After graduating from high school, Matthias Mück studied Catholic church music from 1990 to 1998, initially at the music education department at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz . At the same time, he received organ lessons from Peter A. Stadtmüller and improvisation from the Fulda cathedral organist Hans-Jürgen Kaiser , which he completed in 1994 with the B-exam.

Afterwards, Mück began a postgraduate course in church music A at the State University for Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt / Main , with organ lessons from Reinhardt Menger and Martin Lücker and obtained his A-exam in 1998. In the 1999 summer semester, Matthias Mück enrolled again at the University of Mainz in order to study organ improvisation in the postgraduate concert exam at the music department with Hans-Jürgen Kaiser, which he finally received in 2001.

In March 1998 he already took over the position of organist at St. Johannes, Apostel in Frankfurt-Unterliederbach as well as the post of second choirmaster and accompanist in the choir of the city of Wiesbaden , which he held until January 2000. During this time Mück also succeeded in establishing a new series of concerts at St. Since 1997 he has also been the musical director of the Catholic church choir St.Martinus in Hattersheim am Main .

In 2000 he finally followed the call to the cathedral and provost church of St. Sebastian in Magdeburg for the position of cathedral musician and responsible church musician. Since then Matthias Mück has regularly given organ concerts at home and abroad as a soloist with a preference for improvisation and “early music” as well as an accompanist ( continuo ) for oratorio concerts. In addition, he has already twice actively participated in the international Altenberg organ academy for organ improvisation of the Ministry of Culture in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Mück's musicianship is complemented by various teaching assignments in the subjects of choir conducting, music history and organ for the part-time church music training (C-exam) in the diocese of Magdeburg and since 2001 in the organ at the Georg Philipp Telemann Conservatory in Magdeburg. He is a member of the Episcopal Liturgy Commission of the Diocese of Magdeburg and also acts as the diocesan representative of the sub-commission for the new prayer and hymn book as well as the official organ expert of the diocese.
