The Cypriot bee ( Apis mellifera cypria Pollmann, 1879) is a breed of the western honey bee native to Cyprus .

distribution

The species is certain to be found in Cyprus . The exact delimitation of the distribution area from other subspecies is still insufficiently known. The Cypriot bee was counted among the bees of the Near East by Friedrich Ruttner , but according to genetic studies it is counted among the C-lineage .

behavior

The special defense strategy of the Cypriot bee against the oriental hornet is known . The bees prefer to attack their abdomen, where the hornet's vital breathing holes are.
