Óscar de la Riva Aguado (born July 15, 1972 in Barcelona ) is a Spanish - Catalan chess player, referee and coach who competes for the Andorran Federation. He has the title of grand master .

Career

De la Riva surprisingly won the Spanish Chess Championship in 2003 , defeating Salvador Gabriel Del Río Angelis 2-0 after a playoff in the final. In the semifinals he was able to defeat the multiple Spanish champions Miguel Illescas Córdoba . In addition, he has already won the Andorran championship six times. De la Riva played on the top board of the Andorran team at the 2000 , 2002 , 2004 , 2006 , 2008 , 2010 , 2012 and 2014 Chess Olympiads . He played club chess several times in the highest French league for the Club de Echiquier Orangeois , in the highest Spanish league for UE Foment Martinenc Barcelona and GEVA-CEA Andorra . At the European Club Cup 1993 de la Riva took part with a Catalan regional selection.

In 2011 he was awarded the title of FIDE arbiter by FIDE and in 2013 the title of FIDE trainer .

In 2014 he reached third place with 8.5 out of 11 at the zone tournament of the small nations in Cyprus, at the second zone tournament in 2016 in Luxembourg he came second behind the Faroese IM Helgi Ziska .
