Adolphus Hubbard

Adolphus Frederick Hubbard (born around 1785 in Warren County , Kentucky , † August 27, 1832 in Quincy , Illinois ) was an American politician . Between 1822 and 1826 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Illinois.

Career

Hubbard was from Kentucky and emigrated early to Illinois, where he lived in Shawneetown , Gallatin County , and worked as a lawyer. In 1818 he was a member of the Democratic Republican Party delegate to the constituent assembly of the future state of Illinois. In the presidential election of 1820 , he was one of the electors who officially re-elected James Monroe for his second term as President of the United States .

In 1822, Hubbard was elected Lieutenant Governor of Illinois alongside Edward Coles . He held this office between December 5, 1822 and December 6, 1826. He was Deputy Governor . After he had represented the governor for some time, he claimed his office for himself. The trial was ruled illegal by a court and Hubbard remained lieutenant governor. In 1826 he ran unsuccessfully for governor.
