William Kinney (politician)

William Kinney (born 1781 in Washington County , Pennsylvania , †  October 1, 1843 in Belleville , Illinois ) was an American politician . Between 1826 and 1830 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Illinois.

Career

William Kinney was born in Pennsylvania and later lived in St. Clair County , Illinois. Nothing is known about his school education. He was active in trade and as a clergyman in the Baptist Church. In the 1820s he joined the movement around the future US President Andrew Jackson and became a member of the Democratic Party founded by this in 1828 .

In 1826 Kinney was elected Lieutenant Governor of Illinois alongside Ninian Edwards . He held this office between December 6, 1826 and December 9, 1830. He was Deputy Governor . In the years 1830 and 1834 he ran unsuccessfully for the office of governor. He died on October 1, 1843 near Belleville.
