Andrew Shuman
Andrew Shuman (born November 8, 1830 in Manor Lancaster County , Pennsylvania , † May 5, 1890 in Evanston , Cook County Illinois ) was an American politician . Between 1877 and 1881 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Illinois.
Career
The sources on Andrew Shuman are not very rich. His brother Benjamin's biography indicates that the family comes from Lancaster , Pennsylvania. Andrew was the second of six children to Jacob and Margret Shuman. Nothing is known about his youth and school education. At an unknown point in time, he came to Chicago , where he worked in the newspaper business. For many years he edited the Chicago Evening Journal . Politically, he joined the Republican Party .
In 1876, Shuman was elected Lieutenant Governor of Illinois, alongside Shelby Moore Cullom . He held this office between January 8, 1877 and January 10, 1881. He was Deputy Governor . He died in 1890.
