Alexander Alexejewitsch Tarasow ( Russian Алекса́ндр Алексе́евич Тара́сов ; born March  12, 1927 in Moscow Oblast ; †  June 16, 1984 in Saint Petersburg ) was a Soviet pentathlete .

Career

In his only participation in the Olympics , at the 1956 Games in Melbourne , he reached a top ten placement with eighth place in the individual. With the team, to which besides Tarasov also Ivan Derjuhin and Igor Novikow belonged, he became Olympic champion .

In 1957 , 1958 and 1959 he was world champion three times in a row with the Soviet team . In all three years the team consisted of Tarasov, Igor Novikov and Nikolai Tatarinow . In 1957 he was also vice world champion in singles, in 1958 and 1959 he reached third place. In 1958 he won the Soviet championship.

After the end of his career, he worked as a coach in the modern pentathlon.
