Anatoli Wassiljewitsch Starostin ( Russian Анатолий Васильевич Старостин ; born  January 18, 1960 in Stalinabad ) is a former Soviet athlete who was active in the modern pentathlon .

At the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, he won a gold medal in modern pentathlon both in individual competitions and with a team, making him the youngest Olympic champion in the history of this sport. Twelve years later, at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona , he won a silver medal in team competition with the United Team of the Commonwealth of Independent States . In the individual competition he was fourth in these games.

Three years after his two-time Olympic victory, he was also world champion and vice-world champion in individual competitions in 1982, 1985 and 1990. With the Soviet team, he took first place at the World Championships in 1982, 1983, 1985 and 1990, as well as second place in 1989 and third place in 1979. In 1989 he was also European champion with the team.

His individual victory at the 1986 World Championships was stripped from him due to a doping test that was positive for beta blockers . In addition, he was banned for 30 months.
