László Fábián (born February 18, 1963 in Budapest ) is a former Hungarian pentathlete and fencer .

Career

László Fábián secured a total of 13 medals at world championships in modern pentathlon between 1983 and 1994. In 1983 he won his first medal with silver in the team competition, and he achieved the same result in 1985 and 1986 . In 1987 he became world champion with the team and achieved his first podium finish in individual with third place. In 1989 he won his first individual world title, and with the team he secured another title. The following year he achieved his first success with the season with second place. Another year later , he became world champion in this competition as well . With the team he was third. In 1993 and 1994 he was again world champion with the relay, and in 1993 vice world champion in individual.

Fábián took part in the Olympic Games twice . In Seoul , he was with the team in modern pentathlon, which in addition to Fabian yet János Martinek and Attila Mizsér included, Olympic champion . In the individual, he finished seventh. He also competed with the Hungarian epee team in the fencing competition and achieved sixth place with this. At the Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992 he only competed in the modern pentathlon and finished 32nd in the individual, with the team he was fifth.

In 1989 he was voted Hungarian Sportsman of the Year .
