The Roman Catholic Diocese of Kansas City-Saint Joseph ( lat. : Dioecesis Kansanopolitanae-Sancti Josephi ) is in the United States located Roman Catholic diocese , based in Kansas City , Missouri .
history
The Diocese of Kansas City-Saint Joseph was on September 10, 1880 by Pope Leo XIII. built from cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of Saint Louis as the Diocese of Kansas City . It was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Saint Louis as a suffragan . On July 2, 1956, the Diocese of Kansas City was merged with the Diocese of Saint Joseph and renamed the Diocese of Kansas City-Saint Joseph .
On September 6, 2012, incumbent local bishop Robert Finn was given a two-year suspended sentence for covering up child sexual abuse for covering up child pornography production by diocesan priest Shawn Ratigan. Finn remained in office until April 2015 despite his conviction.
