Postage stamps from the Federal Republic of Germany in 2001

The 2001 stamps issued by the Federal Republic of Germany were issued by the Federal Ministry of Finance . The German Post AG was responsible for the distribution and sale. The year comprised 50 individual special stamps , four block editions with nine individual stamps, three self-adhesive stamps from stamp booklets and 10 definitive stamps from the Sights series as well as two women from German history .

The year is the first and only one that has been published entirely as a double-face pfennig and euro .

Six stamps were withdrawn before the first edition and not issued . With the exception of a few copies, all stamps were destroyed. These include four issues of the series for sport, the color of which differs from the version that was spent, as well as two charity stamps that were withdrawn due to non-preserved publication and exploitation rights. The best known is the Audrey Hepburn charity brand .

Block editions

The two Christmas stamps appeared as a joint issue with Spain also as a block (German block number 56, Spanish block number 102) and cost 4.45 DM or 2.28 euros (German postage stamps: 100 + 50 Pfennig = 0.51 + 0.26 euros and 110 +50 Pfennig = 0.56 + 0.26 euros; Spanish postage stamps: 75 pesetas = 0.45 euros and 40 pesetas = 0.24 euros). The Spanish stamps are not valid for postage in Germany. The block was only sold by the shipping offices and by so-called stationary philatelic counters. Special feature for block 56I normal paper [0.08 mm] white fluorescence, block 56II thick paper [0.1 mm] yellow fluorescence.
