After this competition, the war began and only after ten years was the competition reintroduced after the end of the war in 1946 as part of the Bundesländer Cup . However, after this was abolished in the course of the state league reform, the BFV decided in 1949 to also discontinue its cup competition indefinitely. During this time ASV Neufeld won the trophy in 1947 and 1948. In 1949, SV Oberwart was able to enter the list of winners.

Lower Austria and Vienna began to establish their cup competition in the football community as early as the 1980s, and so the BFV tried a new attempt in the mid-1990s. In the first cup, the competition was played in group games, which ASV Zurndorf won in 1995. In the next few years, the country divided into the groups North, Middle and South and assigned a group to each club. In each group, two to four clubs were determined in a knockout system, which then played the winner of the cup in the quarterfinals in the knockout system. ASV Stroob was able to win the new competition twice. In the next six years there were six different winners: SV Güssing, SC Pinkafeld, SV Welgersdorf, SV Antau, SV Rohrbrunn and SV Markt St. Martin. In 2004 SV Welgersdorf won the cup again before SV Markt St. Martin won the trophy twice in a row. The UFC Markt Allhau entered the winners list in 2007, as did SC Unterfrauenhaid in 2008, before SV Markt St. Martin won the cup for the fourth time. In the next five years five different clubs won: FC Illmitz, SV St. Margarethen, ASV Siegendorf, SC / ESV Parndorf and SC Neusiedl am See. The SC / ESV Parndorf was able to repeat its success in the next two years before the SC Neusiedl am See won the cup again. In 2018 ASV Siegendorf won the cup for the second time after 2012. In 2019 SC Pinkafeld was successful.

Game mode, participants and draw

The BFV-Cup is held in the knockout system. The draw will take place according to geographical criteria. The clubs are divided into the groups north, center and south. If necessary, subgroups A and B are also formed for each group. All rounds are decided in one game. Until the round of 16, the club that plays in the lowest division has home rights. If both clubs play in the same league, the former club has home rights at the time of the draw. Home rights will be drawn from the round of 16. In the final, the winner of the first semi-final game drawn is considered the home team, the winner of the second semi-final game drawn as the away team. If there is a draw after 90 minutes, the winner will be determined immediately (without extra time) in a penalty shoot-out.

  • 1st round (group north, middle and south): preliminary round (clubs from Burgenland League, 2nd league, 1st class and 2nd class)
  • 2nd round: main round (clubs from the Regionalliga Ost join)
  • 3rd round: Round of 16: 16 participants
  • 4th round: quarter-finals: 8 participants
  • 5th round: semi-finals: 4 participants
  • 6th round: Final: 2 participants
