The national cup was held for the first time in 1923, a year later than the 10th October cup, and it was won by the commercial SK Klagenfurt, the predecessor club of SK Austria Klagenfurt. The next year the Klagenfurter SV won. The next two years, the Klagenfurt AC decided the tournament for themselves. As with the October 10th Cup, SK Austria Klagenfurt was able to achieve a series of 10 victories in eleven years, making it the most successful team in those years. Only Klagenfurt AC snatched the victory away from the Austrians in 1936 before World War II demanded tribute and this tournament also demanded a break of eight years.

The competition was reintroduced after the end of the war in 1946 as part of the Bundesländer Cup . However, after this was abolished in the course of the state league reform, the KFV decided in 1949 to also discontinue its cup competition for an indefinite period. During this time, the Villacher won three times, in 1948 the ASK Klagenfurt won the cup. A cup competition was held in 1958 and 1963, in which ASK Klagenfurt was the winner in 1963.

The Carinthian Football Association was one of the last federal state associations to introduce an amateur cup at state level in the summer of 2006 under the name KFV-Pokal. The first tournament was won by Wolfsberger AC / St. Andrä. The next two years of FC Lendorf and again twice in a row for Villacher SV.
As the best "Cupfighter", FC Lendorf has won 2007/08 (1-0 at A Klagenfurt in St. Stefan / Lav.), 2008/09 (A 1: 1 and H 3: 2 against ATSV Wolfsberg) and 2014/15 (1: 1 A and 1: 1 H, Elfer 5: 4 against SAK Klagenfurt) and final 2010/11 (H 1: 2 and A 0: 2 against VSV), 2013/14 (with 0: 2 H and 1: 2 A at A Klagenfurt) and 2016/17 (with 0: 2 H and 1: 4 A vs. A Klagenfurt). Villacher SV won in 2009/10 (A 3: 3, H 3: 0 against SG Drautal), 2010/11 (A 2: 1 and H 2: 0 against Lendorf) and 2012/13 (1: 1 A and 3: 0 H vs. FC St. Veit). There were two victories for Austria Klagenfurt in 2013/14 (with 2: 0 H and 2: 1 A against Lendorf) and 2016/17 (with 2: 0 A and 4: 1 H again against Lendorf). WAC / St. Andrä (2006/07 against FC St. Veit with 4: 1), Spittal (2011/12 with 3: 2 A and 6: 0 H against Kraig) and Treibach (2015/16 with 5: 2 A and 5 : 0 H vs. St. Jakob / Ros.).
The advance of SV Kraig (Lower League East) into the 2011/12 final (H 2: 3 and A 0: 6 vs. Spittal) and SV St. Jakob / Ros were a sensation. (also Unterliga Ost) 2015/16 (2: 5 H and 0: 5 A vs. Treibach), the UL club SV Penk 2007/08 into the semifinals (H 2: 3 vs. Austria Klagenfurt), 1st class Club FC Sillian-Heinfels in the semifinals of 2012/13 (1: 6 at FC St. Veit), also of the Unterliga-West club SV Seeboden in the semifinals of 2014/15 (1: 2 against SAK Klagenfurt) and the two lower-league clubs Sirnitz (1: 2 vs. A Klagenfurt) and Landskron (1: 3 vs. Lendorf) into the semi-finals 2016/17.

In 2017/18 the successful cupfighter FC Lendorf retired early (in the 2nd round on August 8th with a 1: 2 at local rivals Spittal / Drau). The SAK Klagenfurt reached the final for the second time, its opponent SVG Bleiburg for the first time ever. The Klagenfurt team won both the home and the return game 2-0 (May 8/22).

Name (sponsor)

The national cup has the following names:

  • State Cup 1922 / 23–1962 / 63
  • KFV-Cup: since 2006/07 (there were also sponsor names, partly connected with the "Kleine Zeitung" and especially with "Villacher Bier"), whereby the winners are also rewarded with a barrel of beer.

Game mode, participants and draw

The KFV-Cup is held in the knockout system and participation is compulsory, and the start times are set by the association, unless the two clubs agree on a different season. All rounds up to and including the semi-finals are decided in one game, up to the round of 16 the club that plays in the lower league (class) has home rights. However, if there is a difference of 2 leagues, home rights apply until the semi-finals. If both clubs play in the same league, the first-named club has home rights at the time of the draw; home rights are drawn from the round of 16. The final will be played in a home and away game. The winner of the first semi-final game drawn is considered the home team in the first leg, the winner of the second semi-final game drawn as the away team. If there is a draw after 90 minutes, the winner will be determined immediately (without extra time) in a penalty shoot-out.
A special feature is that five players can be changed. Yellow cards, but also yellow-red cards, do not apply to each other in conjunction with the championship (there is a separate warning system), whereas this does not apply to red cards, so that a player is given a (after a red card received in the championship) Lock can (partially) repay here. In the last few years there was already a so-called "floodlight obligation", which now also applies to all classes in the championships anyway, according to which competing under floodlights (taking into account the associated requirements for the home club) is mandatory.
The winner of the competition is qualified for the Austrian Football Cup; should he have his qualifications fixed for other reasons anyway, the right would be awarded to the other finalist. Professional clubs (Bundesliga, First League) and "farm teams" or 1b teams are not eligible to participate.

  • 1st round: Preliminary round (clubs from 1st class and 2nd class - whereby this is determined from the championship final position of the previous year - in 1st class after rank 10, in 2nd class after rank 5; in addition, the Number vary, 128 teams have to be determined for the 1st main round; thus a club could also receive a bye one day)
  • 2nd round: 1st main round (all other clubs join)
  • 3rd round: 2nd main round
  • 4th round: 3rd main round
  • 5th round: round of 16
  • 6th round: quarter-finals
  • 7th round: semi-finals
  • 8th round: final
