Charles D. Parker

Charles Durwin Parker (born December 27, 1827 in New Hampshire , †  December 27, 1925 in River Falls , Wisconsin ) was an American politician . Between 1874 and 1878 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Wisconsin.

Career

In 1836, Charles Parker and his father came to what is now a barely populated area of ​​what is now Wisconsin, where the family built a farm. The father had been a local politician and businessman in New Hampshire. In his new home, Charles worked on his father's farm. He attended local schools and then graduated from New Ipswich Academy in New Hampshire. In the following years he taught in New Hampshire and Wisconsin as a teacher. Then he worked as a farmer. Since 1859 he lived in St. Croix County , where he held several local offices. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party . He served in the Wisconsin State Assembly in 1869 and 1870 . In 1873, Parker was elected Lieutenant Governor of Wisconsin alongside William R. Taylor . He held this office after a re-election between 1874 and 1878. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . From 1876 he served under the new Governor Harrison Ludington .

Between 1880 and 1888 Parker was a regent board member of the University of Wisconsin at Madison . He died in River Falls on December 27, 1925, his 98th birthday. Charles Parker is also referred to in the sources as “Col. Charles Parker ”. This could also indicate a military activity, since the Col. stands for Colonel, i.e. colonel . However, there is no further indication of a military service relationship.
