Jack B. Olson

Jack Benjamin Olson (born August 29, 1920 in Kilbourn , Wisconsin , †  July 3, 2003 ibid) was an American politician and diplomat. Between 1963 and 1965 and from 1967 to 1971 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Wisconsin.

Career

Jack Olson was born in Kilbourn. The place is now called Wisconsin Dells. After high school, he studied at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo . During World War II he served in the United States Navy . He was used in the North Atlantic. Upon his return to Wisconsin Dells, he became the owner and president of Dells Boat Tours and Amphibious Duck Rides . This was active in the tourism industry. He also campaigned for the promotion of the tourism industry in general. He was also a member of the American Legion veterans' organization .

Politically, Olson joined the Republican Party . Between 1957 and 1960 he was their district chairman in Columbia County . In 1960, 1964 and 1972 he took part as a delegate at the respective Republican National Conventions . In 1960 he led Richard Nixon's unsuccessful presidential campaign for Wisconsin. In 1962, Olson was elected Lieutenant Governor of Wisconsin alongside John W. Reynolds . He held this office between 1963 and 1965. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . Between 1967 and 1971 he held this office again under the new Governor Warren P. Knowles . In 1970 he ran unsuccessfully for the office of governor. Between December 22, 1976 and April 30, 1977, Olson was the successor to Seymour Weiss as US ambassador to the Bahamas . He died on July 3, 2003.
