Milton H. Pettit

Milton H. Pettit (* 1835 in Fabius , Onondaga County , New York ; † 1873 ) was an American politician and lieutenant governor of Wisconsin from 1872 until his death .

Pettit came to Wisconsin at the age of eleven. His family settled in Somers , a small community near Kenosha . In 1854 Petit moved to Kenosha and worked in the grain industry.

Pettit was a respected member of the Republican Party in Kenosha and was a member of the city council. In 1861, 1865 and 1867 he was elected mayor of the city. In 1869 he was elected to the Senate of Wisconsin and in 1871 as the lieutenant governor of the state. After taking office in 1872, his health soon began to deteriorate and Pettit died in the spring of 1873.
