John Strange

John Strange (born June 27, 1852 in Oakfield , Wisconsin , †  May 28, 1923 in Neenah , Wisconsin) was an American politician . Between 1909 and 1911 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Wisconsin.

Career

John Strange attended his home public schools and Beloit College . In his youth he also worked as a temporary worker in various factories. He later taught in several Wisconsin and Iowa wards . Then worked for various companies. For two years he was a manager of a timber trading company in Iowa. In 1899 he came to Neenah, Winnebago County . In neighboring Menasha he founded a sawmill. Later he also got into the paper industry. At the time of his death, he was President of the John Strange Paper Company , John Strange Pail Company, and Stevens Point Pulp and Paper Company . He was also a director at the R. McMillian Company .

Politically, Strange joined the Republican Party . In 1908 he was elected Lieutenant Governor of Wisconsin at the side of James O. Davidson . He held this office between 1909 and 1911. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . Strange was a staunch Prohibitionist and fought against the alcohol industry. He died on May 28, 1923.
