Christopher Trimmel (born February 24, 1987 in Oberpullendorf ) is an Austrian football player . Trimmel, who acts as a defender, plays for 1. FC Union Berlin . In addition, he can also be used as a midfielder .

Career

Trimmel began his career at UFC Mannersdorf in Burgenland . In 2006 he moved to ASK Horitschon , a year later he went to the first team, for which he scored seven goals in 15 games.

In 2008 he was signed by SK Rapid Vienna and was mainly used by the amateurs. Trimmel made his debut in the Bundesliga on April 5, 2009 against SK Austria Kärnten . The striker came on for Croatian Nikica Jelavić in the 88th minute, Rapid won the game 4-2. Four more missions followed this season.

Trimmel scored his first competitive goal for Rapid in the UEFA Europa League first leg against KS Vllaznia Shkodra . On August 2, 2009, he managed a flawless hat trick against Austria Kärnten within six minutes . After a hat trick by Hans Krankl, he was the second fastest in the Austrian Bundesliga up until then . Only a few days later he scored the decisive goal for promotion in the third qualifying round of the Europa League against APOP Kinyras Peyias in extra time.

For the 2014/15 season Trimmel moved to the German second division club 1. FC Union Berlin . For the 2018/19 season he took over the role of team captain and at the end of the season he was promoted to the Bundesliga with the team . He made his debut in the top German division on August 18, 2019 (1st matchday) in a 4-0 defeat in the home game against RB Leipzig . His contract with 1. FC Union Berlin runs until 2021.

National team

Trimmel made his debut for the Austrian national team on August 12, 2009 in the friendly against Cameroon when he came on in the 67th minute. By March 2010, he came to three missions in the national team. After more than nine years, he was called back to the national team in October 2019, where he played his first international match since March 3, 2010 in the European Championship qualifier against Israel .
