history

"DS Smith" was founded in 1940 and has been listed on the London Stock Exchange since the late 1950s . In 1986 the company acquired the "St Regis Paper Company" and in 1988 the "Kemsley Paper Mill", both paper manufacturers. In 1991 this was followed by the acquisition of “Kaysersberg Packaging”, a leading French packaging company, and in 1993 the acquisition of “James Spicer & Sons”, a British wholesaler of office supplies. 1996 saw the acquisition of " John Dickinson Stationery ", a British envelope manufacturer, and in 2004 the acquisition of "Linpac Containers", a British manufacturer of corrugated cardboard. In July 2011 "Spicers", the office supplies wholesaler, was sold again for 200 million pounds.

In July 2012, the takeover of the packaging division of " SCA " for around 1.6 billion euros (then around 1.3 billion pounds) was announced. This was followed in May 2015 by the company “Duropack” for around 300 million  (then around £ 220 million  ). In December 2017, DS Smith was added to the FTSE 100 index. In January 2019, DS Smith completed the takeover of the Spanish packaging manufacturer "Europac", which had 2,300 employees in the 2017 financial year and a turnover of 1.2 billion euros.
