The German ice hockey championship in 1923 was the seventh edition of these championships .

All amateur teams of the German Ice Skating Association (DEV) were eligible to play, but not more than two teams from one town or district.
Originally the games were supposed to take place in Berlin at the beginning of January. Due to bad weather, they were relocated to the Rießersee near Garmisch-Partenkirchen , where they were scheduled for January 16 and 17.
Because of heavy snowfall, only one game could be played there. The other two should now take place in Berlin on February 18 and, after another relocation, on February 20. However, the defending champion MTV Munich 1879 could not muster a complete team for these games, so that the encounter between the two Berlin clubs on the Rießersee remained.
