The Eastland County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Eastland .

The county is located about 50 km north of geographic center of Texas and covers an area of ​​2,414 square kilometers, of which 15 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Stephens County , Palo Pinto County , Erath County , Comanche County , Brown County, and Callahan Counties .

history

Eastland County was formed from parts of Bosque County , Coryell County and Travis County on February 1, 1858 , and the administrative organization was completed on December 2, 1873. It was named after William Mosby Eastland , an officer and Texas ranger during the Texas Revolution . After a failed mission, he was imprisoned in Mexico and executed in 1843.

The median income for a household in the county is $ 26,832 , and the median income for a family is $ 33,562. Males had a median income of $ 25,598 versus $ 17,112 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,870. 12.1 percent of families and 16.8 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
