The county is about 90 km south of the geographic center of Texas and about 35 km to the southwest from the border with Mexico . It has an area of ​​4037 square kilometers, of which 5 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Real County , Bandera County , Medina County , Zavala County , Kinney County, and Edwards County .

history

Uvalde County was formed in 1850 from parts of Bexar County . It was named after Cañón de Ugalde or after Juan de Ugalde , the Spanish governor of Coahuila (both information in the literature).

According to the 2000 census , there were 25,926 people in 8,559 households and 6,641 families in Uvalde County. The population density was 6 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 75.68 percent white, 0.36 percent African American, 0.68 percent Native American, 0.39 percent Asian, 0.08 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 19.65 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 3.16 percent were descended from two or more races. 65.91 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
