The Uvalde County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is Uvalde .

The county is about 90 km south of the geographic center of Texas and about 35 km to the southwest from the border with Mexico . It has an area of 4037 square kilometers, of which 5 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Real County , Bandera County , Medina County , Zavala County , Kinney County, and Edwards County .

history

Uvalde County was formed in 1850 from parts of Bexar County . It was named after Cañón de Ugalde or after Juan de Ugalde , the Spanish governor of Coahuila (both information in the literature).

According to the 2000 census , there were 25,926 people in 8,559 households and 6,641 families in Uvalde County. The population density was 6 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 75.68 percent white, 0.36 percent African American, 0.68 percent Native American, 0.39 percent Asian, 0.08 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 19.65 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 3.16 percent were descended from two or more races. 65.91 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 8,559 households, 40.2 percent had children or young people living with them. 59.4 percent were married couples living together, 13.7 percent were single mothers and 22.4 percent were non-families. 19.9 percent were single households and 9.8 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.96 and the average family size was 3.42 people.

31.4 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 9.8 percent between 18 and 24, 25.3 percent between 25 and 44, 20% between 45 and 64 and 13.6 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 95 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 90.7 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $ 27,164 , and the median income for a family was $ 30,671. Males had a median income of $ 25,135 versus $ 16,486 for females. The per capita income was $ 12,557. 19.9 percent of families and 24.3 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
