Background and story

The Grammy Awards (actually Grammophone Awards), which have been presented since 1958, are presented annually in numerous categories by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) in the United States of America for artistic achievement, technical competence and excellent overall performance regardless of the album - Honor sales or chart position. The award was given for high quality albums from the banda and norteño music fields .

The category was introduced as a merger of the Best Banda Album and Best Norteño Album categories to reduce the number of Grammy categories. In the following year, the restructuring was continued and this category was combined with Best Regional Mexican or Tejano Album in the new category Best Regional Mexican Music Album (including Tejano) and no longer continued independently.

The winner of the only award was the Californian Norteño band Los Tigres del Norte .
