Grammy Award for Best Orchestral Performance
The Grammy Award for Best Orchestral Performance , in German "Grammy award for the best orchestral performance", is a music prize that has been awarded by the American Recording Academy in the field of classical music since 1959 .
History and background
Since 1959, the Grammy Awards are presented annually in numerous categories by the Recording Academy in the United States to recognize artistic achievement, technical competence, and overall excellence regardless of album sales or chart position.
One of these categories is the Grammy Award for Best Orchestral Performance. The prize has been awarded annually since 1959. Until 1989 only the conductor received it. Since then, the orchestra has also received an award, even if it is not mentioned in the nomination.
The name of the award has been slightly changed several times over the years:
- From 1959 to 1964, the price was as Best Classical Performance - Orchestra awarded
- In 1965 it was named Best Performance Orchestra
- From 1966 to 1975 he was again Best Classical Performance - Orchestra called
- From 1977 to 1978 it was awarded under the name Best Classical Orchestral Performance
- From 1980 to 1981 the award was called Best Classical Orchestral Recording
- In 1983 the prize was as Best Orchestral Performance award
- In 1984 the Best Orchestral Recording award was named
- From 1985 to 1987 the award was again Best Classical Orchestral Recording
- From 1988 to 1989 she was again Best Orchestral Recording called
- Since 1990 the award has been given again under the name Best Orchestral Performance .
