Irena Pawełczyk-Kowalska (born March 9, 1934 in Katowice ) is a former Polish luge athlete .

Irena Pawełczyk from Start Katowice first took part in the Luge World Championships in Krynica-Zdrój in 1958 and finished in tenth place. In 1961 she did not finish the race in Girenbad , in 1962 she finished seventh in Krynica. Also in 1962 she celebrated her greatest international success when she won the title at the European Luge Championships in Weißenbach near Liezen ahead of Helene Thurner and Gerda Rieser-Cegnar . At the 1963 Luge World Championships in Imst Pawełczyk finished eleventh. In the luge competitions held for the first time at the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck , she came fourth in 1964 behind Ortrun Enderlein , Ilse Geisler and Helene Thurner. The last time the Polish competed at a World Cup in Davos was in 1967 and finished 13th.
