Career

Beginnings

In 1988, Hüfner moved to the Harz Mountains with her parents and brother from Fehrbellin . Her brother often took her to training in Blankenburg . In 1992 she started for RC Blankenburg and was looked after by trainers Helmut Zimmermann and Hans-Werner Stollberg. In 1997 she went to the sports school in Oberwiesenthal and was accepted into the WSC Erzgebirge association . Until 1997, Hüfner was four times the Harz youth champion and state champion of Saxony-Anhalt and she finished 13th in the German youth championship. She was making good progress in the junior division. At the national championships in 2000, she was fifth. At the Junior World Championships in Altenberg in 2000, she reached eighth place and won the gold medal with the German team.

In the 2000/01 season she finished third in the Junior World Cup. In the national junior title fight, she came in third place and was only twelfth in Lillehammer at the junior world championships. A season later, she won the bronze medal at the Junior World Championships in Innsbruck-Igls and the gold medal with the German team. In 2002, after graduating from high school, she was accepted into the Bundeswehr sports promotion group in Frankenberg. She finished in eighth place at the 2003 German championships in Winterberg.

In the 2004/05 season she only started at the World Cup in Oberhof, finished fourth and finished 35th in the overall World Cup. At her third German championships in 2005 at Königssee she was fourth. A season later , she won her first race in Altenberg and thanks to top placings in the World Cup races , she qualified early for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin . In the overall ranking she came in a good third place. At her fourth German championships in 2006 in Oberhof, she was only seventh. In the Challenge Cup 2005/06 she was tenth in only two starts. At the 2006 Winter Olympics, she finished third. At the 2006 European Championships in Winterberg , she was second like two years earlier. Since the last season in the World Cup, Hüfner has been able to compete for victories with the best female tobogganists. The 2006/07 season was even more successful for her as she won two World Cups. Once in Calgary and once in Winterberg and took second place overall. In the Challenge Cup 2006/07 she finished fourth in only three starts. With the German team, it was also enough to win second place.

2013 to 2019

At the beginning of the 2012/13 season , Hüfner was handicapped by a back injury, so that she could not quite build on her usual top performances and had to take a break from the World Cup at times. In addition, her trainer André Florschütz was dismissed from the German Luge Association in the summer . At the European Championships in Oberhof in 2013 , she took second place. On February 11, 2014, Hüfner won silver in the single-seater at the Olympic Games in Sochi behind Natalie Geisenberger .
