Dajana Eitberger (* 7. January 1991 in Ilmenau ) is a German luger .

Career

Dajana Eitberger starts for RC Ilmenau and belongs to the training group of Norbert Hahn and Jan Eichhorn, formerly André Florschütz , in Oberhof . The sport soldier had her international breakthrough when she narrowly missed a medal in fourth place at the 2010 Junior World Championships in Igls . A year later she won the title in Oberhof both individually and alongside Julian von Schleinitz , Nico Grüßner and Toni Förtsch in Germany's team relay . She finished the European Junior Championships in Laas in second place behind Mona Wabnigg . The 2012/13 season saw her international debut among women in the Luge World Cup . In Oberhof she was fourth behind Natalie Geisenberger , Tatjana Hüfner and Anke Wischnewski in a four-fold German victory. It was also the 2013 European Luge Championships . In the following season , Eitberger was a permanent member of the German World Cup team. In eight races she consistently achieved single-digit placings, only at the season opener in Lillehammer she could not qualify for the World Cup race because of a fall. In Oberhof, she finished third on the podium for the first time. After missing a medal in fourth place last year, she won the bronze medal behind Natalja Khorjowa and Tatiana Iwanowa at the 2014 European Luge Championships in Sigulda in the absence of the German Olympic drivers . In the overall World Cup ranking, she finished fifth at the end of her first full season.

In 2005 and 2006 Eitberger won the junior women ranking of the FIL Summer Luge Cup , then from 2007 to 2013, interrupted only by a victory by Ewelina Staszulonek in 2010, six times in a row among women. This makes her, alongside Silke Kraushaar-Pielach , the most successful participant in the competition with eight wins. At the national championships in Altenberg in 2012 she won the bronze medals at the German championships behind Tatjana Hüfner and Carina Schwab , in 2014 behind Hüfner and Anke Wischnewski .

At the European Championships in 2015 , Eitberger was European champion both in the single-seater and in the relay. The victory in the single seater was also her first victory in the World Cup and crowned a season in which she was second three times and third four times and came second in the overall standings behind Natalie Geisenberger and in front of Tatjana Hüfner.

At the 2018 Olympic Games in Pyeongchang , Eitberger won the silver medal behind teammate Natalie Geisenberger . In the last run she was able to move from fourth to second place. For this success she was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier on June 7, 2018 .

In the 2019/20 season, she paused due to pregnancy. She gave birth to her son in February 2020.
