Johann Böhm (politician, 1886)

Johann Böhm (born January 26, 1886 in Stögersbach , Lower Austria , † May 13, 1959 in Vienna ) was an Austrian trade union official and politician ( SPÖ ).

Life

After attending the elementary school and the community school in Waidhofen an der Thaya, Johann Böhm learned the trade of bricklayer . In 1903 he joined the union . From 1921 he was head of the Viennese branch of the building trade union. From 1927 he was a member of the City Council of Vienna. From 1930 to 1934 he was a member of the National Council .

In 1939 he became a foreman , and from 1940 he worked for a construction trade association.

Böhm was State Secretary for Social Administration from April to December 1945. In 1945 he was one of the founders of the non-partisan Austrian Federation of Trade Unions , of which he was president from 1945 to 1959. During the same period he was also second president of the National Council and a member of the SPÖ board. In 1947 he concluded a secret agreement with Franz Olah to form a stay-behind organization under the code name Austrian Hiking, Sports and Social Club .

Johann Böhm was one of the main initiators of the social partnership and was remembered decades after his death: On the occasion of the 125th anniversary of his birthday, a ceremony was held on January 28, 2011 in the plenary hall of the Austrian National Council in the presence of the Federal President and high-ranking officials and employees of the Austrian Social administration takes place.
