Linda Martin (born April 13, 1947 in Omagh , County Tyrone , Ireland) is an Irish singer and television presenter . She represented Ireland twice in the Eurovision Song Contest , which she also won in 1992 .

Career as a singer

While she was still at school, Linda Martin joined the band Chips in 1969 , with whom she also took part in the Irish preliminary round of the Eurovision Song Contest four times. She took part in the qualifying four more times as a soloist and once more as a singer in the group Linda Martin and Friends . In 1984 she represented Ireland in Luxembourg with the title Terminal 3 , written by Johnny Logan , which took second place. In 1992 she qualified for Malmö , also with a composition by Johnny Logan: Why Me? should become the fourth Irish winner in the competition. Her winning title reached first place in the charts. With a total of nine entries, she is the most frequent participant in the Irish preliminary round. In 1998 she released the CD You Needed Me , which mainly contains well-known country songs.

In 2005 Linda Martin was part of the prominent background choir during the Eurovision Song Contest Gala Congratulations .

TV presenter career

Linda Martin has hosted various formats on Irish television, including the popular quiz show The Lyrics Board . She was also the backstage presenter on the first season of the Irish edition of The X Factor .

She was a juror for the first, second and fourth seasons of the casting show You're a Star , which from 2003 to 2005 also provided the Irish representative in the Eurovision Song Contest. In 2005 and 2006, Martin was also a juror for the special editions of the show.

In 2007 she announced the Irish country points at the Eurovision Song Contest in Helsinki .
