List of football players with at least 50 international goals
The following list contains the football players who have scored at least 50 goals in international matches for the senior national teams. So far, only one player, Iranian Ali Daei , has managed to score over 100 goals. For the Thai player Piyapong Piew-on , more than 100 goals are cited in some sources, but FIFA does not count many of the games in which he scored goals as A-internationals.
The youngest player to score the 50th goal was Mokhtar Dahari from Malaysia with 21.1 years. The oldest player to score the 50th goal was Australian Tim Cahill , aged 37.8. Brazil and Hungary have the most “fifties” with four players. Three of the Hungarian players scored their last goal before the first of the Brazilians ( Pelé ) scored his first goal. The Hungarian Imre Schlosser was the first player to score his 50th international goal on November 5, 1916. The last player to do so was Edinson Cavani , who scored his 50th international goal on November 18, 2019.
Bobby Charlton ended his international career as well as Sven Rydell and Lukas Podolski with 49 goals. For the Ivorian Abdoulaye Traoré 50 goals were initially counted, from May 28, 2020 rsssf.com will only count 49 goals, as he scored one goal in a game against the Nigerian U-20 team.
Only three “Fifties” scored an average of more than one goal per game and only Ali Daei scored more than 100 goals, of which only 1 goal against a team from the top 10 of the FIFA world rankings and 55 goals against teams that are on Ranks 100 to 208 in the FIFA world rankings.
The Englishman Vivian Woodward also scored more than 50 goals, but only 29 for the senior team and 44 goals for the amateur national team , but these against other senior national teams, which at the time were usually also amateur teams. If you add up all his goals, he was the first player to score the 50th international goal on May 31, 1909 in an 8-2 win against Hungary , scoring four goals.
