Robin van Persie (born August 6, 1983 in Rotterdam , Netherlands ) is a former Dutch soccer player and current coach . The striker played in his home country, Turkey and England and 102 times for the Dutch national team . He is currently employed in the Feyenoord Rotterdam coaching team .

Van Persie began his career in the youth of Excelsior Rotterdam . The striker later moved to local rivals Feyenoord Rotterdam , with whom he won the 2002 UEFA Cup .

In the 2004/05 season van Persie moved to the Premier League for Arsenal . He made his debut for the club in the 3-1 win in the Community Shield against Manchester United . On January 21, 2007, he broke his metatarsus in the game against Manchester United during the goal celebration and was out until the end of the season. By this time he had scored 11 goals in 17 league games in the 2006/07 season, making him the top scorer at Arsenal FC. In the following years van Persie was hit by bad luck with injuries. Among other things, he lost his regular place to Eduardo in the 2007/08 season . In the 2008/09 season van Persie regained his regular place due to a serious injury to Eduardo and scored, also because of a month-long injury to Cesc Fàbregas , with 19 goals and 14 assists in all competitions, the most scorer points of the team and was won by fans then voted Arsenal Player of the Year. Van Persie started the 2009/10 season with 12 competitive goals in 16 games. This high form was put to an end with a severe torn ligament in a friendly against Italy in November 2009. He was out for five months and was unable to make a decisive contribution to the season after the injury. Arsenal didn't win a title; until Nicklas Bendtner's recovery there was no replacement for van Persie and Andrei Arshawin had to play in the center forward position. In the season 2010/11 Robin van Persie got the jersey number 10 and thus succeeded his compatriot Dennis Bergkamp . He scored 21 competitive goals, including 18 in the Premier League, placing him third on the top scorer list behind Dimitar Berbatow and Carlos Tévez . After Cesc Fàbregas left for FC Barcelona during the 2011 summer break , van Persie was appointed the new team captain by coach Arsène Wenger . On September 24, 2011, he scored his 100th competitive goal for Arsenal in a 3-0 win against Bolton Wanderers . On October 29th of the year he shot a hat trick in a 5-3 win against Chelsea . In April 2012 van Persie was voted both in the election of the professional representation PFA (Professional Footballers Association), which is carried out among English football professionals, and by the English football journalists of the FWA (Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year) Voted Player of the Year in England. At the end of the season, van Persie was the top scorer in the Premier League with 30 goals. In July 2012 van Persie announced that he would not renew his contract with Arsenal, which expired on June 30, 2013. In order to be able to collect a transfer fee, Arsenal FC were ready to let the team captain go.

On August 15, 2012, an agreement was finally reached with league rivals Manchester United on a transfer of the striker. Two days later, after successfully passing the medical examination, the transfer was finally completed and van Persie signed a four-year contract. According to English media reports, the transfer fee paid to Arsenal is said to have been the equivalent of 29 million euros and van Persie is said to have received a salary of 250,000 euros per week. On August 20, 2012, he played his first competitive game for the Red Devils in the 1-0 defeat against Everton on the first day of the 2012/13 season . On September 2, 2012, he scored his first hat trick for Manchester United against Southampton FC . Van Persie contributed 25 goals this season to Manchester’s league title and was top scorer for the second year running. On March 19, 2014, he scored a hat trick in a 3-0 win over Olympiacos , securing Manchester United a place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

In July 2015, Fenerbahçe signed Istanbul van Persie. With the club he was runner-up in 2016 and was also in the Turkish Cup final, in which the club lost to arch-rivals Galatasaray Istanbul .

After a total of two and a half years in Turkey, he returned to Feyenoord Rotterdam in January 2018 . With his youth club, van Persie won the KNVB Cup at the end of the 2017/18 season . On October 25, 2018, van Persie announced that he would retire from active football at the end of the 2018/19 season.

On May 12, 2019, Robin van Persie played the last game of his professional career after 18 years. Feyenoord lost 2-0 in the home game against ADO Den Haag and van Persie was on the starting line-up. In stoppage time he was replaced and left the De Kuip to the enthusiastic applause of the fans.

In the Dutch national team , Robin van Persie made his debut on June 4, 2005 against Romania  (2-0) when he came on for Ruud van Nistelrooy in the 64th minute . In his second international match against Finland , he scored his first goal for the national team. At the 2006 World Cup he was a regular player and scored one goal; and in the 2008 European Championship , he was part of the squad of the Oranje , was used in all four games and scored two goals.

At the Soccer World Cup 2010 van Persie was set as a center forward, but could only score one goal in the competition. Despite the unusual defensive style of play of the Dutch national team, they were able to move into the final, in which van Persie was in the starting line-up. However, they lost 1-0 after extra time with a goal from Andrés Iniesta . On September 2, 2011, he scored four goals against San Marino in the 11-0 record victory of the Dutch in European Championship qualification. Since October 11, 2013 he has been the top goalscorer in the Netherlands. In the 8-1 win in the qualifier against Hungary , he scored three goals and overtook the previous record holder Patrick Kluivert .

At the 2014 World Cup , he scored two goals in a 5-1 win against defending champions Spain . On October 10, 2015, he was substituted on for his 100th international match in the European Championship qualifier against Kazakhstan . Three days later he was substituted against the Czech Republic when the score was 0: 2 and initially made the interim 0: 3 with an own goal, but scored his 50th and last international goal with the goal to make it 2: 3 .

After the active career

Van Persie returned to Feyenoord in early March 2020 and was hired as a forward coach under head coach Dick Advocaat .

Private

Robin van Persie is married to a Moroccan woman. They had a son in November 2006 and a daughter in October 2009.
