The list of winners and nominees for the German Book Prize includes the award-winning and nominated works since the first award of the German Book Prize in 2005. The jury members of the respective years are also attached.

On September 16, 2009, the 2009 finalists for the German Book Prize were announced. The jury members selected these from 154 titles proposed by over 70 publishers from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The main prize 2009 was announced on October 12, 2009.

2010

On September 8, 2010, the finalists for the German Book Prize were announced. The jury members selected these from 135 titles proposed by 84 publishers from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. On October 4th, 2010 the winner of the award was announced.

2012

On August 15, 2012, the longlist for the German Book Prize was announced. The jury members selected these from 162 titles published between October 2011 and September 12, 2012. The shortlist of six novels selected by the jury was presented on September 12, 2012. The winner was announced on October 8, 2012.

2013

On August 14, 2013, the longlist for the German Book Prize was announced. The seven jury members selected these from 201 titles published between October 2012 and September 11, 2013. The shortlist of six novels selected by the jury was presented on September 11, 2013. The winner was announced on October 7, 2013.

On August 13, 2014, the longlist for the German Book Prize was announced. The seven jury members selected these from 176 titles published between October 2013 and September 10, 2014. The shortlist of six novels selected by the jury was presented on September 10, 2014. The winner was announced on October 6, 2014.

2018

The longlist was published on August 14th and the shortlist on September 11th, 2018. The public announcement of the award-winning novel took place on October 8, 2018. A paperback with excerpts (reading samples) from the selected novels on the longlist is available under the title German Book Prize 2018. The nominees have been available free of charge in many bookshops across Germany since August 20.

2019

The longlist was announced on August 20th and the shortlist on September 17th, 2019. The award ceremony took place on October 14, 2019 at the start of the Frankfurt Book Fair.

2020

The submission deadline was March 23, 2020. The longlist was announced on August 18, 2020, and the six shortlisted titles were published on September 15, 2020. The award ceremony took place again at the start of the Frankfurt Book Fair on October 12th in the Kaisersaal des Römer, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic only via live stream .

2021

The submission deadline was March 26, 2021. Each publisher could propose a maximum of two titles that were or will be published between October 2020 and September 21, 2021 (planned announcement of the shortlist). 125 “German-language publishers” (Germany: 83, Switzerland: 22, Austria: 19, Luxembourg: 1) submitted a total of 197 titles, surpassing the previous year's record by five publishers and ten titles. 20 titles come from the autumn 2020 program, 110 titles from the spring 2021 program and 67 more are to be published in autumn 2021. In addition, a list of recommendations could be used to suggest the jurors titles for the selection process. 112 novels were recommended in this way, 16 more than in the previous year. In later statements, however, there are talk of 230 submitted titles.

The longlist was announced on August 24, 2021. After the shortlist has been published (September 21, 2021), the award ceremony will take place on October 18, 2021.
