Livingston County is a county in the state of New York in the United States . At the 2010 census , Livingston County had 65,393 residents and a population density of 40.0 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Geneseo .
geography
The county covers an area of 1,658.3 square kilometers, of which 22.0 square kilometers are water. The only major body of water in the county is Conesus Lake , through which parts of the boundaries of Ontario Counties and Monroe Counties run. The largest flowing water is the Canagasera Creek , a right tributary of the Genesee River in the southwest of the county. There are no significant hills.

history
The county was formed on February 23, 1821 from Genesee County and Ontario County . It was named after Robert R. Livingston (1746-1813), a member of the Continental Congress from New York. Portions of Allegany Counties were annexed in 1846 and 1856. In 1860 the county had 39,256 residents.
One place has the status of a National Historic Landmark , the Geneseo Historic District . 91 buildings and sites in the county are listed in the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 19, 2018).
