geography
Orleans County is located on the south bank of Lake Ontario . The northern border in the lake is also the border with Canada . It is characterized by a largely flat to slightly hilly landscape that slopes from south to north towards the lake shore. The average heights in the south are around 150 meters, while the lakeshore is 75 meters above sea level. The county does not have any significant bodies of water, but has a large number of small streams and rivers that flow into the lake.
In contrast to its neighbors in the east and west, the area has no large industrial sites; the agricultural use of the land predominates. There are also a large number of naturally preserved areas, some of which are used as local recreation areas. In particular, the area around Oak Orchard is used for this. Sports boat harbors have also been created along the lakeshore.
The county covers an area of 2,116.2 square kilometers, of which 1,103.8 square kilometers are water.
