Otsego County is a county in the state of New York in the United States . At the 2000 census , the county had 61,676 residents and a population density of 24 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Cooperstown on Otsego Lake , which is home to the Baseball Hall of Fame .

The name Otsego is derived from an Indian word meaning place of the rock .
