history

Memorial in Fatuk Maria

At the end of 1979 there were two Indonesian resettlement camps for East Timorese in Suco, which were supposed to be relocated for better control. One was named Manutaci , the second Fatuk Maria .

The pro-Indonesian militia Mahidi had a second center in Manutaci under the leadership of Daniel Pereira . In the context of the independence referendum in East Timor in 1999 , the Mahidi, like other militias, committed several acts of violence. For example, on January 3, 1999, two young people were murdered by militiamen in Manutaci. In 2003, among other things, this case was heard in court. Several defendants were sentenced to prison terms in absentia. They had fled to West Timor , Indonesia .

politics

In the 2004/2005 elections, Silveiro da Costa Fernandes was elected Chefe de Suco. Martins Lopes da Cruz won the 2009 elections and Manuela da Silva won the 2016 elections .
