Marvin Wanitzek made his professional debut for VfB Stuttgart II on July 20, 2013 on the 1st matchday of the 2013/14 season in the 3rd professional league against Borussia Dortmund II. For the 2015/16 season he was promoted to the squad of the Bundesliga team of VfB. Wanitzek made his competitive debut for the first team in Stuttgart on October 28, 2015 in the DFB Cup 2015/16 against FC Carl Zeiss Jena . On November 29, 2015, he played his first Bundesliga game with VfB Stuttgart against Borussia Dortmund . It was his only season use. With the second team of VfB, he was relegated from the third division in 2016.

For the 2017/18 season , Wanitzek moved to Karlsruher SC for a transfer fee of 95,000 euros , where he signed a contract that runs until 2020. This made it the most expensive entry in the 3rd division for the 2017/18 season. He played his first competitive game for Karlsruhe on July 21, 2017, the first matchday of the 2017/18 season, in a 2-2 draw against VfL Osnabrück , when he came on for Anton Fink in the 83rd minute . Wanitzek scored his first competitive goal for KSC on October 29, 2017 (14th matchday) with a long-range shot to make it 1-0 in the home win against 1. FC Magdeburg . Wanitzek completed every league game except for the first leg against SC Fortuna Köln , in which he was yellow-red-blocked, and with three goals and nine assists made a significant contribution to the fact that the KSC was able to achieve promotion at the end of the season. There they failed, however, at FC Erzgebirge Aue . In the following 2018/19 season, Wanitzek only missed one game, yellow-banned. As a regular player in central midfield and with six scored and seven prepared goals, he helped ensure that at the end of the season he and the KSC were promoted to the second division.
