Maximilian "Max" Sax (born November 22, 1992 in Baden ) is an Austrian football player on the position of a striker . He has been playing for FK Austria Wien since 2018 .

Career

youth

Sax began his active career as a soccer player in April 1999 in his hometown Pfaffstätten in the Baden district , where he was accepted into the junior team of the lower class 1. SC Pfaffstätten at the age of six . There he went through various youth league classes and was handed over from 2003 to 2005 to the larger, but also still lower class, ASV Baden in the district capital of Baden. Because of his good performances there, the then VfB Admira Wacker Mödling became aware of the young talent. At the age of twelve, Sax finally moved to Admira's youth department at the beginning of 2005 as a cooperation player .

After only a short time in the club's youth teams, the young striker was accepted into the club's own academy, which is one of the best in the country. After Admira's sporting as well as financial descent into the regional league, Richard Trenkwalder , who had previously been President of ASK Schwadorf , began to get involved financially for Admira. He operated the renaming of his Schwadorfer playing in the first division in FC Trenkwalder Admira and the relocation of the club headquarters from Schwadorf to Mödling . The main reason for this was the "rescue" of the Admira Academy, in which Sax was already active at the time. The real Admira in the legal sense was also renamed and continued to play from the 2008/09 season in the Regionalliga Ost under the name Trenkwalder Admira Kampfmannschaft II .

After playing through the various youth leagues sponsored by Toto , Sax took part in the game operations of the TOTO U-19 youth league from the 2009/10 season. In the 2009/10 season, the 1.79 m tall striker completed nine championship games for the U-19 team, in which he scored eight goals.

society

The 17-year-old made his debut for the professional team in the Admira preparatory games in early 2010, after only making the leap into the professional team in mid-January 2010. In the training camp in Belek , Turkey , Sax was used for the first time in the professional team on February 10, 2010. In the 1-1 draw against Oțelul Galați from Romania , he was substituted on in the 70th minute for goal scorer Vladimír Janočko . Further appearances in friendly matches against Universitatea Cluj , HB Køge , MFK Petržalka , ASC Götzendorf and TSV Hartberg followed.

Born in Badner, he made his professional league debut on March 6, 2010 in a 0-0 home draw against FC Wacker Innsbruck , when he came back on the field for Janočko in the 88th minute. After he also played against FC Gratkorn a week later , he was chosen as the youngest player from the Bundesliga to be the Benjamin of the round . Only shortly after his first two professional appearances, Sax extended his contract period with FC Admira Wacker Mödling to a further three years until 2013. After being elected "Benjamin of the 20th round", he was awarded this award again in round 23.

In addition to the league appearances, the striker was also active in the ÖFB Cup of the 2009/10 season , where he and his team lost 1-0 in extra time in the quarter-finals against Bundesliga club SK Sturm Graz . After numerous players such as Daniel Drescher , Christopher Dibon , Richard Windbichler or Marco Sahanek , Sax is another talent that made the leap from the academy to the professional field and quickly established himself there.

In addition to the nine games and eight goals in the U-19 team, there were seven appearances and one goal in the regional league and five goalless short appearances in the second-rate first division. 2010/11 brought the center forward to 16 regional league appearances in which he scored four goals; In the promotion season of the pros, he only had four short appearances. In the following season 2011/12 the student had to cut back on his football career. The youngster was only able to record seven goalless appearances this season. The 2012/13 season was very successful for Sax personally. At the Admira Juniors he was by far the most dangerous goal-scoring player and scored 16 goals, including two hat-tricks, in 22 league games. He was also used twelve times in the Bundesliga and scored a goal on December 15, 2012 in the 1: 3 away defeat against Wacker Innsbruck .

For the 2018/19 season he moved to league competitor FK Austria Wien , with whom he received a contract that ran until June 2022.

National team

Sax already made the acquaintance of the Austrian U-17 national team , for which he also scored a goal in one game. In the friendly international match against the U-17 team of Slovakia in June 2009, Sax scored the goal to give Austria a 3-1 lead just one minute after the Slovaks scored 2-1; the game in Bruck an der Leitha ended in a 4-1 victory. Since 2009 he has been part of the Austrian U-18 team, for which he was first called up in September 2009 by coach Hermann Stadler for a friendly against his Swiss colleagues. In the game against the Swiss U-18s, the striker came on in the 58th minute for the SK Rapid Wien junior player Daniel Luxbacher ; the away game ended in a 1: 2 defeat.

After he had previously been appointed to the squad of the Austrian U-19 team by U-19 national coach Hermann Stadler, Sax made his team debut in a friendly against his colleagues from Russia. In the game in Bad Vöslau , which ended in a 1-1 draw, he came onto the pitch for Julian Erhart at half-time . In the longer term, Sax should be used more in Austria's U-19 national team. On August 24, 2010, Stadler appointed him to Austria's U-19 squad for a final test against Greece at the beginning of September before qualifying for the 2011 European Under-19 Football Championship . In 2010 he made a total of two international appearances for the U-19 selection; these were also his two last appearances in an Austrian youth national team.

In September 2017, Sax was appointed to the senior national team for the first time as a replacement for the injured Marcel Sabitzer .
