Seán McDonagh

Seán McDonagh (* 1982 in Hamburg ) is an Irish actor who works mainly in Germany.

Life

Seán McDonagh, born in Germany, grew up bilingual with German and English as his mother tongue.

From 2003 to 2007 he studied acting at the University of Music and Theater in Hamburg . During his studies he already had his first theater engagements. He played u. a. at Kampnagel (2004), at the Thalia Theater (2005), at "Thalia in der Gaußstrasse " (2005/2006), in the Zeisehallen (2005), at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg (2005) and at the "Junge Schauspielhaus Hamburg" (2006) .

After completing his studies, he was engaged at the Dresden State Theater from 2007 to 2009 , where he a. a. who played Haimon in Yael Ronen's Antigone production. In 2009 he appeared as Scipio in Jette Steckel's Caligula production at the Deutsches Theater Berlin .

From 2009 to 2013 he was a permanent member of the ensemble at the Schauspielhaus Zurich . There he played u. a. Gregor Samsa in The Metamorphosis (2010, directed by Nina Mattenklotz ), the son Biff Loman in Death of a Salesman (2010, directed by Stefan Pucher ) and Major Snyder in Saint Johanna der Schlachthöfe (2012, directed by Sebastian Baumgarten ). In Zurich he also took part in productions by Barbara Frey , Sebastian Nübling , Hannes Weiler , Lars-Ole Walburg and Daniela Löffler .

Since the 2013/14 season he has been a permanent member of the ensemble at the Schauspiel Köln . In the 2013/14 season he was the "diabolical playboy and dropout of creativity" Francisco D'Anconia in the world premiere of the play The Strike after Ayn Rand's bestselling novel from 1957. At the Cologne theater he also appeared as a revenant in Helenes Fahrt in den Himmel (2014, text and direction: Jens Albinus ), in the roles of Mutter / Havlitschek / the conferencier in Tales from the Vienna Woods (2015, director: Stefan Bachmann ), as Virgil in Die divine Comedy (2015, director: Sebastian Baumgarten) and as Dmitry Nikitsch Kossych in Iwanow (2016, director: Robert Borgmann ).

In the 2016/17 season he embodied Biff Loman again at the Schauspiel Köln, as before in Zurich; this time in a production by Rafael Sanchez . He also spoke the texts of the journalist Doğan Akhanlı in the play Istanbul by Nuran David Calis , who also directed the premiere. In the 2017/18 season he took on the title role in the Woyzeck production by Swedish director Therese Willstedt .

McDonagh also starred in several international cinema productions. He is also regularly in front of the camera for German TV productions. In the ZDF crime series Das Duo , he starred in the film Das Duo: Sold und Verierter (first broadcast: August 2008), alongside Paula Kalenberg , son-in-law Max Hammersen. He had episode roles a. a. in the television series Post Mortem - Evidence are immortal (2008, as Prof. Dr. Mark Neumann), Coast Guard (2010, as Tobias Matani), Heldt (2015, as Jan who dropped out, who lives in an allotment garden colony) and SOKO Cologne (2017, as a desperate suicide Erik Zander). In the 5th season of the ZDF series Bettys Diagnose (2018), he had a supporting role as the husband of a patient. In the 2nd season of the television series Meuchelbeck (2019) he took on a leading role in the episode as the criminal René.

McDonagh, who regularly gives readings and emerges as a reciter, is also a lecturer for scene studies at the Cologne drama school der Keller . He lives in Cologne .
